Thys Groesbeek's Poems

What’s Okay?
By Thys Groesbeek
I’m thinking about the day behind me;
the manner in which people played off against each other.
With disappointment, I find that it is the rude, obnoxious and dishonest
who remains in my head at night.

For all the ill-mannered I feel sad; but none more than those who are dishonest.
I contemplate about their reasoning; place myself in their shoes.
While I find it possible to understand how their skewered reasoning justifies their actions;
I can not find myself being in agreement with that.

I think again about, how life is about interaction.
There exist a constant exchange; you give me this and I’ll give you that.
It is here where the dishonest is most dangerous of all.
See, they rob others in the level of exchange; stealing from all.

My word! Our people are really held captive by their data.
One group believes that their conclusions and/or messiahs are the only hope for salvation;
while others believe they can run the race in their power alone.
Some attribute their existence to heavenly bodies; while others place their trust in stones.

There is one element that is consistent with most of those I have met in this life:
That is that they judge others by what they consider to be true, seams unfair; doesn’t it?
But it is not really, if you consider that you probably measure others by what you have learned.
That is the only way you probably know how to make sense of this complex life.

I have found it valuable to learn as much as I deem necessary about another’s beliefs.
Then; to measure the individual against his general belief system, which made more sense for me.
I have found one thing common amongst all, and that is that they commit wrongs against there own code.
Some handle this by confession, while other attempt to make things right.

Obviously, I have my own reasoning on all these matters; and some behaviour I find offensive.
I attempt not to allow my reasoning to overshadow what is fair; each person must live his own life.
I do believe that each person will stand trail for his behaviour before some authority sometime.
One of the things I find unfair, is when one force another to align to his belief system; by duress.

Like me, everyone has the power of choice;
and often we assign power to others we deem worthy, or because they offer something we need.
But; this power can be withdrawn whenever we choose, most easily when exchange or reality is out.
So… my advice is to treat all though they are your equal; for tomorrow, they may be your boss.
