Thys was born on December, 10th 1971 in Heidelberg (TVL). He matriculated at Hoėrskool De Villiers Graaff in Villiersdorp in 1989.

He joined the national police force straight out of high school, where he spent ten years serving the citizens of South Africa. He then spent sometime in retail management, tried his hand in the insurance industry before he fell into the IT industry.

Although Thys is Afrikaans, he finds it simpler to express himself in English. He had a troublesome childhood and has used poetry to put things into perspective for himself. In so doing he found a love for the art and wrote more and more about the things he observed, experienced and concluded in everyday life.

As a poet and philosopher that thinks outside the box, Thys often struggles to accept the confines that life has placed on him. He continuously pushes the boundaries of how we view our world; however, by being able to express his thoughts and viewpoints in his poetry, the world that we live in has become slightly more bearable for him to exist in. Thys’ viewpoints are not shared by many; but, for those lucky few that truly know him he makes for an interesting friend.

As Thys’ life companion and wife, I have grown to understand that freedom of expression is essential for his existence. Without that, Thys could never experience any form of contentment or peace.

His two daughters and I will remain his “home”, the nest where he can rest after a challenging flight.
