| A man sits
and ponders on a chair; glued to the television from
appearances. His eyes fixated on the images dancing in front of him; seeing nothing at all. How did his life become so complicated; so messed up? No longer is he the head of his house; good food and education absent in his house. There used to be a time when a man could return from a hard day’s work. Expecting him at the front door was a wife that adored him. His children were God fearing, well mannered and knew their place. All of this is gone; and his wife seams more exhausted than him on any day. There used to be a time when there was time for intimacy; or just idle chit-chat. These days it seams like the cooking, children and chores takes up all her time. These are things that used to be done during the day, the evening was for daddy. When did it go wrong so horribly; when exactly was the man robbed of his wife? Now it is up to the television to fill the void left in this mans life. Even if his wife had the time to chat; do they even still know how? Do they still know each other; likes and dislikes or will they land up fighting? Nothing is grand, part maybe from the children; the very ones they neglect. Is it even possible to return the women back to being caretakers of homes? Has this world distracted the importance of this vital family function? How long will the adoration of the beautiful youngster at work be resistible? Here he sits; king of the jungle; master of his house, alone and neglected. He is a failure; incapable to provide to meet the needs of his family. A young blond female executive at work has received the promotion he counted on. He knows the job, has the respect of his colleagues; but, no blond hair or her charm. Only last year, a friend had the same fate; her promotion was for bedroom successes. The work place has become chaotic; male and female colleagues falling in love. Partly, he can’t blame them; they saw more of each other than of their spouses. Office romances, divorce rates, single parent children are all related in some way. The temptation of chemical sparks flying back and forth; too hard to resist. He stares at the television; a documentary on the abuse of women and children. What has become of man; distorted is the picture today, from the one intended? He glares over to his beautiful exhausted wife in the kitchen; she’ll be tired tonight. What a failure he is; his pride and joy, the love of his life; reduced to a slave. |
