Just Friends

There was a time; where we could gaze across a room and smile.
I would know what you were thinking; you that I was flirting.
Such treasured times; as friends… just friends.
How does “friends” become such a hard word to say?
How emotions turn to a longing, I don’t know.

There was a time; you would search the room to meet my gaze.
Rewarded it would be with an affectionate wink or wave.
Such treasured times; as friends… just friends.
How the strength to with hold my love is fading?
But… friends are we; forever as time in this life is flying.

There was a time; we exchanged “I love you’s” sincerely.
It warmed the heart to know someone cared, someone loved.
Such treasured times: as friends… just friends.
How does destiny bind a pair so far apart?
How else can it be, I love you and you love him.

There was a time; we would pass notes to each other like children.
I shared your every thought; and you knew all of mine.
Such treasured times; as friends… just friends.
How deep your presence has barrowed into my heart?
“Friends” is such an unfitting word to describe what we are.

There was a time; where my mind was confused of where I wanted to be.
My hand belonged to one, while my heart belonged to you.
Such treasured times; as friends… just friends.
How can we be “just friends”, can we at least call it special?
Better yet, let’s make a date; to meet at the life of next.
