Dismissing Love

I wish I had the ability to dismiss love from my heart with the ease others do.
You don’t understand the dilemma of doing that, do you?
Love is an eternal thing; if it is less than that, I was never love to begin with.
Sad then how little true love is still around in this world of ours!

Convince me that your love has been redirected; give me an equation to test.
You might think you are being wise, but contact me when you old; let’s see then.
Love do not go away, we simply numb it because we think it will eventually part.
It doesn’t; the regret sets in when you are old and have nothing else to think about.

So, you deal with loss the way you please; the way you always have.
I will harness that loss and eventually validate its true worth; then make peace.
I expect an old age of contentment; knowledge that I lived this life to the full.
I will sit in a rocking chair; sharing wisdom gained with those who care to listen.

Listen to me and save yourself much regret.
Love without the expectance of something in return.
Make love an all giving thing; and give loved ones the consideration you desire.
Savor the fragrance, the essence of love; live it out and share with a hug and a kiss.

Love needs expression; it must be validated and respected as the mighty force it is.
Love and care are all that can warm the heart.
If someone did not really matter that much to you; their loss will be of no affect.
Is that what our ability to love has been reduced too; is that the best that you can do?

Our hearts has become so incapable of love that it is now reserved for only one.
Only one or two people can benefit from our care for them.
I have seen how a wife’s love has shifted from her husband to a child.
Nothing wrong with that, you say; is it impossible to love two beings completely?

People can’t love anymore; love is merely shifted from one person to another.
Love has degraded; only God should be loved with all that you are, you know!
If you love someone with all that you are; that person has become your God.
Human gods are not so strange, when you consider how far we live from God.

I am skeptical; and I have good reason.
The very beings I love are losing themselves in a faceless world of confusion.
Am I expected to sit back and not care; I can’t, a great part of love is caring.
I can’t dismiss love from my heart; I simply care far too much.
