Days
Dedicated to my friend Rhey
I recall a time where the scent of earth filled my nose.
We had mud between toes and bugs for musical tone.
Those were the days when mud and hands could make toys.
Now, all of that is gone; and I, stand here still.

Time there was when I shied my eyes from the girls in class.
They would hug me; kiss me on the cheek to see me blush.
Those were the days when cars were prettier than girls.
Now, all of that is gone; and I, a happily married man.

Can you recall a time, when money was for the pocket?
Then, on a Friday afternoons; we’d spent it on sweets and toys.
Those were the days when real fun did not have a cost.
Now, all of that is gone; and I, owe my money to the bank.

As I grew older; girls got cuter and cars more expensive.
I liked them both, but a kiss was sweeter than candy.
Those were the days when we fell in love each day.
Now, all of that is gone; and I, have daughters of my own.

Life is grand; life is sweet… each day brings joy of its own.
We see the sun that shines; the gentle falling rain… tranquil.
These are the days when we should treasure the smaller things.
Soon, it will be gone; and I, will remember it dearly.

As I sit here and ponder; I recall the beauties of my life.
I think of mothers, friends and children…
These are the days when I think of you most.
Still, it is here; and I, will love you forever.
