Poets' Tears

Poetry is a curious art
It does not appeal to all
And even those who enjoy the read
Don’t agree on its siren call.

Poets write for reasons varied
Most to satisfy their need
To express, to vent, to imagine
To entertain with a crafted read.

This art of self-expression
Serves poet and reader too
Pleasure for both the goal to meet
Not always the case, it’s true.

To sit in judgment of its worth
Reflects mainly the reader’s taste
As in all things that are produced
Sometimes wonders go to waste.

Some poets may be unhappy
When their work is not met with cheers
But if cheers are the only goal they seek
Those poets might end in tears.
